Nevada Drops Series Opener At Louisiana Tech
RUSTON, La. - The University of Nevada baseball team (15-21, 4-4 WAC) lost the first game of a four-game Western Athletic Conference series 3-1 to Louisiana Tech (22-21, 5-8 WAC) tonight at J.C. Love Field in Ruston, La. The loss snapped a four-game win streak by the Wolf Pack and leaves the team 15-21 on the season and 4-4 in conference play. The Bulldogs improved to 22-21 and 5-8 in WAC action.
Nevada's lone run came in the top of the first inning when Waylen Sing Chow scored on an error with two down to stake the Pack to the 1-0 lead. LA Tech scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and got helped by a pair of Nevada errors. The Bulldogs scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.
The Pack threatened in the top of the ninth eventually loading the bases with two outs but second baseman Joe Kohan grounded out to third base to end the game.
Sophomore Tom Jameson (3-5) suffered his first WAC loss and fell to 3-5 on the season giving up three runs, two earned in six innings on the mound. Trevor Peterson (4-3) won his fourth game of the season for LA Tech giving up just one unearned run in eight innings on the mound. Caleb Dudley (8) saved his eighth game of the season pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Brian Barnett (2-for-3) had two on Nevada's six hits on the night. Kyle Roliard (3-for-4,2R) and Mark Threlkeld (3-for-4,R,RBI) had three hits each for LA Tech. Alex Williams (2-for-4,2RBI) drove in two of the Bulldogs runs..
The two squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday that is scheduled to get underway at 11:00 a.m. PT.
