RENO, Nev.  –  University of Nevada (20-16) head baseball coach Gary Powers won his 900th game as the Wolf Pack defeated San Francisco (16-24) 10-5 today at Peccole Park.  Powers is in his 30th year at Nevada and all 900 wins have come directing the program.

Trailing 4-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth inning Nevada exploded for seven runs to take the lead for good 10-4.  Right fielder Brooks Klein’s seventh home run of the season was grand slam that closed out the scoring for the Pack in the big inning.

Elliott Van Gaver (1-0), the fifth Pack pitcher of the game, earned the win as he did not allow a run in his inning and a third.  Joradan Haseltime (0-2) suffered the loss giving up four runs in his time on the mound.

Kewby Meyer (3-for-4,2R,RBI) led the Pack with three hits that included a pair of triples.  Jay Anderson (2-for-3,R,RBI) collected two hits, scored a run and drove in one.  Klein had four RBI coming on his grand slam in the sixth inning.

Nevada returns to Western Athletic Conference play on Friday at Sacramento State with first pitch set for 2 p.m.  Saturday and Sunday’s games are scheduled  for 1 p.m.

Notes:  Nevada head coach Gary Powers won his 900th game in his 30th season at Nevada.  Right fielder Brooks Klein’s team leading seventh home run of the season was the Pack’s first grand slam of the year.  Nevada has won four in a row.  Kewby Meyer hit his first two triples of the season.  Elliott Van Gaver won his first game at Nevada.  The two teams combined to use 43 players, 22 for Nevada and 21 for USF.  Both teams used seven pitchers in the game.
