Nevada Defeats UC Davis 7-4
RENO, NEV. - The Nevada baseball team (8-16) defeated the UC Davis Aggies (5-18) 7-4 to complete the season sweep at Peccole Park today.
Jeremy Cole (1-2) earned his first victory of the season turning in seven strong innings, holding the Aggies to two runs on seven hits.
Nevada scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the third when Tommy Niebergall scored from second on an RBI single by Brock Stassi. The Wolf Pack extended its lead to 4-0 in the fourth, plating three runs on three hits and two walks.
Michael Turay led off the fourth with a single to right center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Braden Shipley. Nick Melino and Tommy Niebergall drew back-to-back walks to load the bases for Joe Kohan, who hit his fifth double of the year down the left field line scoring Turay and Melino. Curtis Frisbie followed with an RBI single through the left side.
Cole held the Aggies scoreless through six innings before giving up a leadoff double in the sixth to UC Davis short stop Scott Heylman, who later scored on an RBI single by first baseman Eric Johnson. The Aggies added another run off Cole in the seventh on an RBI double by catcher Alex Dreyfuss.
Nick Melino went 0-4 with a walk, ending his eight game hitting streak. With the walk, he has reached base safely in all 24 games this season.
Carlos Escobar Jr. entered the game in the top of the seventh and homered in his first at bat to extend his hit streak nine games. The two-run shot was Escobar's third home run of the season, and his second in as many games.
Troy Marks pitched the eighth and ninth giving up two runs on four hits in two innings of work.
The Pack takes on the Reno Aces tomorrow night at Aces Ballpark before hosting Seattle this weekend.UCD Recap
