Nevada Falls to Bulldogs
March 29, 2013
RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada baseball team fell in game two of its Mountain West series with Fresno State on Friday by a score of 4-0.
The loss by the Wolf Pack (16-11, 4-4 MW) to the Bulldogs (6-17, 2-4 MW) was the first shutout loss of the year for Nevada. Starting pitcher Tyler Wells (4-1) took the loss after he was chased from the ballgame in the fifth, while Derick Velazquez (2-2) earned the win for the Bulldogs. Colby Blueberg pitched a career high 3 2/3 innings of relief, recording four strikeouts in 12 batters faced.
The Fresno State offense burst out for three runs in the fifth, including a two RBI double by Taylor Tempel, to give the Bulldogs the only runs it would need. The Bulldogs also added an insurance run in the eighth after a throwing error on a dropped third strike.
After an Easter egg hunt on Sunday at 12:30 p.m., Nevada is back in action to battle the Bulldogs in the finale of this MW series beginning at 1 p.m.
