Final Stats

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (13-11) baseball team had its three-game win streak snapped  on Thursday afternoon at Peccole Park, falling 4-3 to BYU (11-9.  The loss leaves the Wolf Pack 13-11 on the season while the Cougars improved to 11-9.

The second game of the three-game series is scheduled for Friday at 2:00 p.m.

Trailing 1-0 Nevada junior catcher Carlos Escobar, Jr. hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to put the Pack up 2-1.  BYU knotted the score in the top of the third inning where it remained until the seventh inning.

The Cougars scored twice in the seventh off reliever Jayson McClaren and held on for the 4-3 victory.   The Pack scored once in the ninth but a double play ended the game when Nevada right fielder Brooks Klein was caught off first base on a popup foul ball that accounted for the final two outs of the game.

McClaren (0-1) allowed two runs in his time on the mound and was tagged with the loss.  BYU starter Chris Capper (1-4) won his first game of the season giving up two runs in six innings on the mound.

Right field Brooks Klein (2-for-4,RBI) and second baseman Joe Kohan (2-for-4) led the Pack with two hits each.  Escobar drove in two runs with his second home run of the season and Klein platted the other Nevada run.

BYU shortstop Tanner Chauncey (3-for-5,R,RBI) led the Cougars with three hits in the game.
