HONOLULU, Hawaii – The University of Hawai`i (8-11) baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap the University of Nevada’s (9-10) three-game win streak defeating the Wolf Pack 6-3 at Les Murakami Stadium today. The loss dropped the Pack to 9-10 while the Rainbow Warriors improved to 8-11.
Trailing 3-2 in the top of the eighth inning the Pack got an RBI single from freshman pinch hitter Jeff Nellis to tie the score at three. In the bottom half of the inning UH sent seven batters to the plate and three scored to take the lead 6-3 which was the final score.
Nevada got an RBI single from designated hitter Jordan Devencenzi in the first inning and his sacrifice bunt in the third scored a run to put the Pack on top 2-0. UH scored once in the third inning and twice in the seventh inning and held a 3-2 advantage heading to the top of the eighth.
Colby Blueberg (2-1) the third of five Pack pitchers in the game suffered the loss allowing three runs but just one was earned while recording two outs in the game. Quintin Torres-Costa (1-0) earned the win for UH despite allowing the tying run in the eighth inning. Juliene Jones (1) pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his first save of the year.
Left fielder Kewby Meyer (3-for-4,R) had three hits and scored a run for the Pack. Devencenzi (2-for-3,2RBI) collected two hits and drove in two.
Stephen Ventimilia (3-for-5,R) led UH with three hits and Kaeo Aliviado (1-for-4,3RBI) drove in a game-high three.
