RENO, Nev. -
The University of Nevada baseball team beat UC Irvine 8-3 at Peccole Park Thursday night.
A rain storm couldn't ruin the Pack's offense, as they advanced to 10-6 on the season, while UC Irvine fell to 8-7.
An RBI-double from Brett Jones and an RBI-groundout from Brooks Klein in the first put the pack up 2-0. After a sloppy 4th inning with two errors and two wild pitches by Braden Shipley, the Anteaters got their first run on the board from an RBI. After that, the pack cruised with Shipley throwing 113 pitches, pitching six innings and only allowing two hits, and one run, and getting his fourth win on the season.
Nevada's offense gained momentum starting with Joe Kohan hitting a solo-homerun in the bottom of the 5th, followed by an RBI-single by Austin Byler to put the pack up by another two runs. After a strike out, throw out double play gets the Pack out of a jam in the 6th, the offense continued to cruise with a Jay Anderson RBI that brought in two runs.
After another two runs in the 7th for the Anteaters, the Pack would respond with another two runs from a Carlos Escobar Jr. RBI-double, which would be the final nail in the coffin as the Pack would win 8-3.
Nevada will continue the home series with the Anteaters tomorrow at noon. Admission is free for fans in celebration of the Give Back Like Jack campaign.
