Nevada Falls to UNLV in Home Opener

RENO, NEV. - The University of Nevada (0-7) lost 9-0 in their 2011 home opener against UNLV (9-2) today. Tanner Peters (3-0) got the win for UNLV and Jeremy Cole (0-1) got the loss in his first start of the season.

The Rebels got ahead early, scoring three runs in the first inning, two runs in the fourth two runs in the fifth and went on to win 9-0, behind a complete game by Tanner Peters.

RHP Jeremy Cole (0-1) pitched four innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits in a losing effort in his first start of the season.

Nevada threatened to score in the bottom of the ninth inning when Anthony Rosa came to the plate with Cody Collins at third base and Joe Kohan on second base, but the freshman grounded out to the third baseman to end the game.

Rosa, Nick Melino, Garrett Yrigoyen, Joe Kohan and Jamison Rowe each had hits for the Pack. Rosa doubled to lead off the eighth inning and Kohan doubled in the ninth, while Yrigoyen, Rowe and Melino singled in the second, third and fourth innings respectively.

The Wolf Pack takes on the Rebels tomorrow at 1 p.m. in game two of the three game series.
