Final Stats

FRESNO, Calif. –  The University of Nevada (2-4, 0-2 MW) baseball lost a Mountain West game 5-3 to Fresno State (5-2, 2-0 MW) at Pete Beiden Field today.  The loss was the fourth in a row for the Wolf Pack.  The final game of the series is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.

With the game tied a three FS scored single runs in the seventh and eighth inning to win 5-3.  

Nevada scored twice in the top of the third inning on sacrifice bunt from second baseman Scott Kaplan and RBI single from first baseman Austin Byler to take an early 2-0 advantage.  The Bulldogs took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning to move in front 3-2.  FS had three consecutive two-out RBI singles to score the runs.

Right fielder Brad Gerig’s two-out RBI single in the top of the fifth inning tied the game at three where it stayed until FS scored in the seventh and eighth innings.

Mark Nowaczewski (0-1) was tagged with the loss despite not allowing a hit but gave up one run and walked three.  Derick Velazquez (2-0) pitched three shutout innings to get the win.

Kaplan (2-for-4), Gerig (2-for-4,RBI) and catcher Jordan Devencenzi (2-for-4) had two hits each for the Pack.  Kewby Meyer, Byler and Gerig each had an RBI.

Chris Mariscal (2-for-5,R,RBI), Kevin Viers (2-for-4,2RBI) and Taylor Ward (2-for-3,RBI) collected two hits each for the Bulldogs.  Viers drove in two of FS five runs.
