MESA, Ariz. - University of Nevada (1-1) sophomore Tyler Wells pitched six shutout innings and freshman Michael Fain worked out of a bases load jam in the ninth as the Wolf Pack held on for a 2-1 victory over Kansas (1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.  The Pack and Jayhawks have split the first two games of the four-game series to begin the 2013 season after KU won 11-4 on Friday.

With the Pack up 2-0 heading to the top of the ninth inning reliever Michael Bradshaw allowed a walk and double that put the tying runs in scoring position.  Making his first collegiate appearance Fain came out of the bullpen and hit the next batter and walked in a run.  A 3-2-3 double play started by first baseman Hugo Hernandez and fly ball out to left field ended the game.  Hernandez made several outstanding defensive plays on the day including starting a pair of double plays.

Wells (1-0) allowed seven hits and struck out one to earn his first victory of the season.  Fain (1) did not allow a run in his inning to earn his first collegiate save.  Wes Benjamin (0-1) suffered the loss giving up two runs on nine hits in his 5.2 innings on the mound.

Nevada's first run came in the second inning when Brooks Klein tripled and scored on Scott Kaplan's two-out single.  Klein scored the second run for the Pack in the sixth when he crossed the plate on shortstop Kyle Hunt's sacrifice fly.

Klein (3-for-R,2R) had a team-high three hits and scored both Pack runs.  Kaplan also had three hits and drove in one.  Jacob Boylan (3-for-4) collected three hits for the Jayhawks.

Game three of the series is slated for Sunday at 12:00 p.m. PT.
