SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After starting the season with two wins on Friday the University of Nevada (2-1) baseball team lost its first game of the season falling 7-3 to Boston College (2-1) at Schott Stadium tonight. The Wolf Pack concludes the opening weekend versus Santa Clara (0-2) on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The game was tied at one after four innings before the Eagles scored one in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to take control of the game 7-1. BC took advantage of a Pack error and collected three hits in the sixth to produce the big five-run inning.
Juniors Austin Byler and Ryan Teel delivered RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth inning to account for the Pack's final runs of the game as Nevada lost 7-3.
Junior lefty Tyler Wells (0-1) suffered the loss allowing two runs on five hits in 4.2 innings on the mound. Andrew Chin (1-0) earned the victory giving up one run in his five innings of work.
Left fielder Kewby Meyer (2-for-3,R) led the Pack with two hits. Byler, Teel and Jordan Devencenzi each drove in a run.
Right fielder Chris Shaw (2-for-5) had two hits for the Eagles. Shortstop Joe Cronin finished with two RBI while five other BC hitters had one run driven in.
