RENO, Nev. – For the second time this season the Nevada and UTEP rifle teams will compete against each other in a Patriot Rifle Conference match. The Wolf Pack opened the season with a 4597-4465 victory at UTEP on Oct. 12. The score of 4597 at UTEP is the high for the Pack this season.
Nevada enters this week’s match ranked 18th while the Miners are 20th. Nevada is 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in the first season of the Patriot Rifle Conference. Saturday’s match with UTEP is the third for the Pack in PRC.
“We are delighted to welcome UTEP back to Nevada,” Wolf Pack head coach Fred Harvey said. “They are a great team and we look forward to shooting with them.”
The smallbore is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. and will take place at the range located in the parking lot near Nevada’s baseball field, Peccole Park. Air rifle is expected to get underway at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the Pack rifle range located on the second floor in the Nevada Genomics Center at 910 Valley Road.
Sophomore Greta Ochsner’s 586 in the air rifle at UTEP is the top score for the Pack in that event this season. Haunani Akana boasts the top smallbore score of 575 with Chelsie Hata close behind at 574. Both scores came in the first meeting with UTEP. Akana and Chelsie Hata are tied for the top aggregate score of 1154 which combines the score of the smallbore and air rifle. Those aggregate scores were also shot in the season opening win at UTEP.
