RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada rifle team is ranked 13th in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association preseason poll released today. The Wolf Pack opens the season Oct. 12 at UTEP.
West Virginia, the defending NCAA champions start the season on top of the poll. Four members of the newly formed Patriot Rifle Conference that includes Nevada appear in the top 10. Alaska-Fairbanks is third followed by TCU. Air Force is seventh and Ohio State 10th giving the PRC four teams in the top 10. The sixth member of the PRC is UTEP which is ranked 18th in the first poll of the season.
The Pack rifle team is comprised of 17 members this season. The team is a mixed squad of both men and women. The athletes shoot both small bore and air rifle during competitions. The team will once again be led by head coach Fred Harvey, the 2003 Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Harvey enters his 19th year directing the Nevada rifle program.
