53 Wolf Pack Student-Athletes Set To Graduate

RENO, Nev. -- Fifty-three Wolf Pack student-athletes representing 15 teams have applied for graduation at the University of Nevada this spring and summer. Ceremonies for the 122nd University Commencement are set for this weekend on the University Quad with the processional for bachelor's degree candidates taking place on Saturday, May 19. The Wolf Pack football team is represented by 10 student-athletes, while Nevada's skiing program has seven graduates. The Wolf Pack baseball team is represented by six graduates, while Nevada's softball and track and field teams are graduating five student-athletes each. Nevada's men's basketball, women's basketball, rifle and soccer teams have three graduates each, the men's golf and men's tennis teams are each represented by two graduates and the Wolf Pack women's golf, swimming and diving, women's tennis and volleyball team have one graduate each. In addition, eight members of the Wolf Pack spirit squad will be earning their degrees this spring and summer, bring the total number of members from Nevada Athletics graduating to 61. Nevada's graduating student-athletes represent a variety of majors, including biology, general studies, community health sciences, marketing, speech communications, business management, criminal justice, human development and family studies, communication studies, animal science, international affairs, psychology, mechanical engineering, health ecology, international business, journalism, civil engineering, accounting and information systems, social work, elementary education and economics. Wolf Pack student-athletes participating in Saturday's commencement ceremony will wear a special silver and blue cord that is presented to them to recognize their efforts as student-athletes. Nevada Athletics will present the student-athletes with their cords at a graduation reception on Friday, May 18. Including this spring and summer's 53 graduates, Nevada has seen 469 of its student-athletes graduate in the past seven years. The Wolf Pack's Graduation Success Rate is at its all-time high of 78 percent and has improved in each of the last seven years. "We are so proud of all of the Wolf Pack student-athletes who have reached the ultimate goal of graduation this spring and summer," Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth said.
