The University of Nevada rifle team finished second in a match against the University of Alaska over the weekend. The match was hosted by the University of Texas at El Paso.
Alaska won the event with a team score of 4,652 followed by Nevada with 4,622 points.
Haunani Akana led the field in air rifle with a personal best score of 590. Olivia Pennell recorded a score of 577 to lead the team in small bore.
The site in El Paso also served as an NCAA qualifier match following the contest between Nevada and Alaska. Nevada finished the NCAA qualifier match with a score of 4,613. The team was 37 points shy of the 4,650 needed to qualify for the NCAA Rifle Championships.
