The No. 7 University of Nevada rifle team claimed the top spot in a match at The Citadel Saturday afternoon.
The Wolf Pack led the field of five participants with an aggregate score of 4,647. The Citadel Men scored 4,413, VMI Men 4,400, VMI Women 4,293, and The Citadel Women finished with 4,274.
"We had a strong match." Head Coach Fred Harvey said. "Everyone shot well, we will have to continue our focus in El Paso next, for a chance to compete for a National Championship."
Olivia Pennell led Nevada in air rifle and small bore with scores of 587 and 582. Pennell's score in small bore was a personal best on the year. Haunani Akana shot a season personal best in the air rifle event, finishing with 582.
The team has the week off before traveling to El Paso, Texas for a national qualifier match at UTEP next week. With an impressive showing in El Paso, the team has a chance to advance to the National Championships March 9-10 at Ohio State.
