5th Annual Blue Tie Ball Nets  a Record $107,000

More than 700 Wolf Pack supporters attended the 5th Annual Blue Tie Ball on March 28, 2014 at the Peppermill Resort & Casino, raising a record $107,000 for athletic scholarships at the University of Nevada.

The circus-themed extravaganza featured more than 50 student-athletes performers in an explosion of music, dance and entertainment. Ringmaster Wendy Damonte, evening news anchor at KTVN and a former Wolf Pack swimmer, oversaw the three-ringed extravaganza while wearing a seven-foot long albino boa constrictor. Football senior-to-be Cody Fajardo served as the student-athlete ringmaster, overcoming a slight snake phobia in the process.

The evening opened with a silent auction featuring state-of-the-art bidding technology of Auctions by Cellular, which allowed attendees to bid using their smartphones and also receive alerts for when they were outbid. The silent auction featured more than 100 packages, including one of the actual Battle Born silver helmets used by the Nevada football team against UNLV in 2013, a custom Nevada Wolf Pack kegerator, art, gift certificates, a 1.5 carot-plus diamond necklace and several sports packages including Wolf Pack experiences, a San Francisco Giants Field Club seats package and memorabilia autographed by several former Wolf Pack standouts including Colin Kaepernick.

Event sponsors included Barrick Gold, the E.L. Cord Foundation, First Independent Bank, the Hart Foundation, Morrey Distributing, Northern Nevada Toyota Dealers, Peppermill Resort & Casino and Whispering Vine Wine Company.

Plans for the 2015 Blue Tie Ball are already in the works so keep an eye out for the date to be announced. For more information on how you can support Nevada student-athletes through a donation of an auction item, sponsorship of the event or ticket/table purchase, call 775-682-6901 or email
