The Nevada women's basketball team had an unexpected guest during today's shootaround at Cal Poly, when former Nevada Track/Field All-American Jenni Ashcroft stopped by to greet the team. Ashcroft was a three-time conference champion in the pole vault for the Wolf Pack, winning the Big West championship in 2000 and WAC titles in 2001 and 2002. Ashcroft helped Nevada claim a Big West outdoor track championship in 2000 and second-place finishes at the WAC championships in 2001 and 2002.

The former Nevada great is in her first season at Cal Poly as an assistant coach for the Mustangs track and field program. Ashcroft spent the last six years coaching at Oregon.

The Wolf Pack women's basketball team will face Cal Poly tonight at 7 p.m. Follow Don Marchand with the live call on ESPN Radio 1450 AM or through a free Stretch Internet audio stream here.

Nevada basketball teams to wear turquoise uniform on N7 night

n7 logo.jpgThe University of Nevada men's and women's basketball teams will wear a turquoise uniform on their respective N7 nights this season.  The men's game is versus Chattanooga on November 22 and women on Nov. 29 when Idaho comes to Reno.   Over the past several years, the Nevada Athletics Department, in conjunction with Nike, has hosted N7 games at Wolf Pack events to honor Native Americans Heritage Month (November).

Established in 2000, N7 is inspired by the Native American ecological concept of Seven Generations.  This season marks the first time the men's and women's basketball teams will wear a specific uniform on N7 night.  Turquoise is one of the colors used to promote N7 and was chosen as the uniform color for this season's games.

The turquoise jersey will only be worn for the Chattanooga and Idaho games and is not an alternate jersey that will be worn during the season.  Other Nevada sports programs will also commemorate Native American Heritage Month by participating in the N7 program.
