Former University of Nevada baseball star Lyle Overbay has
signed with the Atlanta Braves just in time for the playoff run. The first baseman began the year with the
Arizona Diamondbacks and will give the Braves a left-handed bat. He will report Triple-A Gwinnett in Lawrenceville,
Ga. and join the Braves on Sept. 1 when rosters are expanded.
The 12 year MLB veteran played four seasons at Nevada
(1996-99). He drove in a school record
257 RBI during his career and his .358 batting average ranks seventh. In four years he hit 39 home runs which is
tied for the third best total in school history. Twice he was selected to the Big West
Conference first team. He is a member of
the Nevada Sports Hall of Fame.
