Cody Fleming enters his second year at Nevada as an assistant track and field coach. At Nevada, Fleming will serve as the throws, pole vault, multis and high jump coach.
In 2008-09, Fleming's first season at Nevada, he had two regional qualifiers, Alex McAlman and two-sport star Marissa Hammond. McAlman threw 159-5 in the disc and 191-8 in the hammer and Hammond threw 155-1 in the javelin.
Fleming, a native of Sparks, Nev., joins the Nevada coaching staff after coaching at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. Fleming served as the head throws coach and assistant mulit-event coach at Lane Community College during the 2008 outdoor season. During his time with the Titans, Fleming coached four junior college All-Americans.
At Lane Community College, Fleming coached Cyrus Hostetler, who was the 2008 NWAACC Champion and record holder in the Javelin (241'7). Hostetler also had the best community college throw in the nation and was ranked 14th in the United States in 2008 and qualified for the 2008 USA Olympic Trials, where he finished 18th.
"Cody is a great addition to our staff. His enthusiasm and event knowledge will allow us to use him in multiple areas of coach and recruiting," Twiggs said. "Cody is a great fit for our program his local roots, vast event knowledge/experiences, and enthusiasm is the mix our program needs to continue its success. He is a bright young coach and we are excited about his coaching career with the Wolf Pack."
He also served as a physical education instructor at both Oregon and Lane Community College from 2007-08.

Coach Twiggs has created a family atmosphere and has all the pieces in place to field a championship caliber squad," Fleming said. "Coach T has a vision to be a competitive force on the national stage- I share that vision and look forward to helping make it a reality soon."
Fleming competed for the Ducks for two seasons (2004-06) where he recorded two top-10 finishes in the Pac-10 decathlon as a junior (fourth) and senior (10th). He was also a Pac-10 competitor in the high jump, javelin and discus and was a member of Oregon's Pac-10 Championship team in 2005.
Before competing for the Ducks, Fleming competed at Lane Community College for two seasons (2002-04) where he was the 2004 NWAACC Community College Discus Champion and the 2004 NWAACC Community College Decathlon Runner-up. He was also a two-time Junior College All-American.
Fleming graduated from Reed High School in Sparks, Nev., in 2002. While at Reed, Fleming took third in the state high jump as a senior (6-6) and third in the discus (160-3). He was also an all-conference quarterback and lettered in basketball.
Fleming's younger brother Kyle (21) is a Sergeant in the US Army and has served one 15 month tour in Afghanistan. Fleming graduated from Oregon in 2007 with a degree in journalism with a focus in creative advertising. He is married to Annett Wichmann, a former All-American in track and field at the University of Hawai`i.
