San Jose, Calif. – University of Nevada(31-22, 18-12 WAC) senior Kyle Howe(8-2) pitched his fifth complete game of the year but the offense struggled as the Wolf Pack lost 2-0 to San Jose State(29-23, 15-14 WAC) in the first game of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, Calif. Saturday afternoon.  With the loss Pack dropped to 31-22 on the season and to 18-12 in WAC play while the Spartans improved to 29-23 and 15-14 in conference action.

SJSU scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when right fielder Alex Sofranac hit a two-out solo home run over the right field wall and it was 1-0.  The Spartans made it 2-0 with a run on two hits in the bottom of the seventh.  Catcher Anthony Aguilera doubled to start the inning and moved to second base on a ground out.  Second baseman Karson Klauer’s single just in front of a diving Matt Bowman in left field plated the second run of the game.

Nevada’s best scoring opportunity of the game came in the top of the eighth inning when shortstop Kevin Rodland singled and moved to third base on second baseman Brian Lloyd’s second single of the game.  The next three hitters, the top three hitters in the Pack lineup, were retired in order as the scoring opportunity was wasted.  The Pack was retired in order in the ninth as SJSU won 2-0.

Howe(8-2) lost just his second game of the year giving up the two runs on five hits in eight innings on the mound.  SJSU starter Max Peterson(5-5) pitched a complete game shutout for the Spartans giving up just five hits in his nine innings on the mound.

Lloyd(2-for-3) collected two of Nevada’s six hits in the game.  Klauer(2-for-4,RBI) led the Spartans with two hits and along with Sofranac drove.
