After five shutout innings the Pack scored a single run in the top of the sixth and held a 1-0 advantage. Third baseman Jason Rodriguez started the inning with a walk and moved to second base on first baseman Shaun Kort’s sacrifice bunt. Designated hitter Terry Walsh singled up the middle scored Rodriguez with the first run of the game.
The Pack second run came in the top of the seventh inning when center fielder Jason Sadoian reached on an error after the first hitters of the inning were retired. Left fielder Matt Bowman followed with a single that put runners on the corners for Rodriguez who delivered an RBI single to make the score 2-0.
Achelpohl was looking for the complete game shutout pitching in the ninth but walked first baseman Albie Goulder and gave up a single to designated hitter Jericho Jones to start the inning. He then did it with the glove as he snared a line shot off the bat of third baseman Drew Bunting and threw to first base to double off Jones. Reliever Chris Garcia then came out of the bullpen to face pinch hitter Chris Bohannan and struck him out swinging to preserve the shutout.
Achelpohl(2-2) won his second of the year and both have come against La Tech. He allowed six hits, walked just one and struck out five in a season-high 8.2 innings on the mound. Garcia(2) saved his second game of the series and season retiring Bohannan in the ninth inning. Landon Braud(0-1) pitched well for Tech giving up just the two runs, one earned in his 6.2 innings of action.
Rodriguez(2-for-3,R,RBI) and Walsh(2-for-4,RBI) led the Pack with two hits and a drove in one run each. Jones(2-for-4) topped the Bulldogs with two hits.
