Ruston, La.  The University of Nevada(27-19, 14-9 WAC) baseball team scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to defeat Louisiana Tech(20-26, 5-20 WAC) 7-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at JC Love Field in Ruston, La.  With the victory the second place Wolf Pack improved to 27-19 on the season and 14-9 in WAC play.  After the loss the Tech is now 20-26 overall and 5-20 in conference play.  The loss eliminated the Bulldogs from the season ending tournament that will be played in Ruston, May 22-25.

Shortstop Kevin Rodland started the top of the 10th inning with a double and scored on second baseman Nick Leid’s RBI single.  Center fielder Jason Sadoian’s sacrifice bunt then moved Leid into scoring position and left fielder Matt Bowman followed with a single to put runners on the corners for third baseman Jason Rodriguez.  Bowman stole second base and Rodriguez was promptly intentionally walked as first baseman Shaun Kort stepped to the plate.  Kort’s sacrifice fly scored Leid with the second run of the inning.

Pack reliever Stephen Bautista retired the side in order in the bottom of the 10th to give Nevada the win.

Nevada struck for a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to take and early 2-0 lead.  Sadoian started the inning with a single and came around to score on designated hitter Terry Walsh’s single through the left side.  Kort who singled in the inning scored the second run on an error by Tech third baseman Drew Bunting.

The Pack added two more runs in the top of the second inning.  Leid started the inning with a solo home run and Kort later doubled down the left field line to score Sadoian when he reached after being hit by pitch.

Tech got a solo home run in the sixth inning from designated hitter Jericho Jones to get on the board.  In the seventh the Bulldogs scored a pair of runs on three hits to pull within a run at 4-3.  Nevada scored a run in the top of the eighth inning when Leid singled and came around to score on Bowman’s sacrifice fly to make the score 5-3.

La Tech scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at 5-5 and send the game into extra innings.  First baseman Albie Goulder’s home run to start the inning made it 5-4 and chased Pack starter Brock Stassi from the game.  Bunting followed with a double off reliever Sammy Miller and scored on catcher Matt Combs’ single to left field and it was tied at 5-5.  Neither team scored in the ninth as the game moved to the 10th inning where the Pack scored twice to win 7-5.

Bautista(2-2) pitched 2.1 innings of hitless, shutout relief to earn the win and even his record at 2-2.  Stassi pitched well but received a no decision after allowing four runs, three earned on nine hits in seven innings on the mound.  Tech reliever Andrew Lassere(1-3) suffered the loss allowing two runs on seven hits in eight innings of action.

Sadoian(3-for-3,2R), Kort(3-for-4,R,2RBI) and Leid(3-for-5,3R,2RBI) tied for game-high honors with three hits apiece.  Bowman(2-for-5,RBI) finished the game with two hits in five at bats and one RBI.  Kort and Leid each drove in two runs in the game.
