Frisco, Texas – The University of Nevada(0-4) baseball team fell to Dallas Baptist(3-2) 7-4 on Thursday night at the Southwest Diamond Classic being played at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.  With the loss the Wolf Pack is now 0-4 on the season while the Patriots improved to 3-2.

The Pack scored first in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 advantage.  With one down Nevada loaded the bases as center fielder Jason Sadoian singled, left fielder Trevor O'Sullivan was hit by pitch and third baseman Jason Rodriguez drew a walk.  Shortstop Kevin Rodland was the second out of the inning as he struck out swinging.  First baseman Shaun Kort took a called strike then fouled off the next four pitches before delivering a line drive single to left field which scored Sadoian with the first run of the game but O’Sullivan was cut down at the plate trying to score from second base.

In the top of the fourth inning the Pack scored a run on two hits.  Right fielder Terry Walsh singled and moved to third base on catcher Tyson Jaquez’ double where he later scored on Ciarlo’s RBI single to make it 2-0.

After being held hitless for the first three innings of the game DBU sent nine players to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning and three scored to take the lead.  Left fielder Clay Kelly dropped down a bunt single but Nevada turned a 5-4-3 double play and there were two out.  First baseman Jason Krizan hit a solo home run to left field and it was 2-1.  The next five Patriot hitters reached base to put DBU on top 3-2.  Third baseman Trevor Head and second baseman Ryan Goines each drove in runs with RBI singles in the inning.

DBU scored three more run in the bottom of the fifth inning to chase starter Rod Scurry from the game.  Two of the runs were unearned as O’Sullivan dropped a fly ball in left center field.  Patriot center fielder Evan Bigley drove in two of the runs with a single and Head scored the other with his single.

The Pack struck for a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Kort singled to start the inning and designated hitter Nick Lead walked.  With two down Ciarlo singled home Kort and it was 6-3.  Pinch hitter Waylen Sing Chow was hit by pitch and pinch hitter Mike Hale walked with the bases loaded to force home the second run of the inning.  Rodriguez struck out swinging as Nevada left the bases loaded.

The Patriots got an RBI double from catcher Brandon Bantz in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the final score 7-4.

Scurry(0-2) suffered the loss allowing six runs, four earned and struck out five in 4.2 innings on the mound.  Jordan Meaker(1-0) got the win allowing just two runs on seven hits and struck out six.  Chris Haney(1) pitched 3.1 innings of shutout baseball to record his first save of the season.

Kort(3-for-4,R,RBI) finished with a game-high three hits and Ciarlo(2-for-4,2RBI) added two.  Ciarlo tied for game-high honors with two RBI.

Kelly(2-for-5,R), Bigley(2-for-3,2RBI), Head(2-for-4,2RBI), Santos(2-for-4,R) and Bantz(2-for-4,RBI) had two hit each for the Patriots.  Bigley and Head finished with two RBI apiece.

On Friday the Pack takes on Alabama at 2:00 p.m. central time in the second day of the classic.  The Crimson Tide fell 10-9 to UT Arlington in today’s first game.
