DAVIS, Calif. – The University of Nevada soccer team scored a season-high four goals, including freshman Vanessa Mann’s first career goal, as the Pack posted a 4-1 victory over UC Davis Friday afternoon at Aggie Field.  Nevada’s win over UC Davis marked the Pack’s first-even win over the Aggies in three games.

Nevada (2-5-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Samantha Miller scored just 59 seconds into the game off an assist from Cristen Drummond. Miller got played in down the left side and found Drummond making a run on the right.  Drummond’s shot was knocked away by Aggie keeper Megan Daws and the deflection went to Miller who put in the rebound for her second goal of the season.

The Aggies (4-5) tied the game in the 14th minute on a goal from Rochelle VanBuskirk.  Jordan Martin played VanBuskirk wide on the edge of the Nevada box.  Nevada goalkeeper Marie Cove came out and blocked VanBuskirk’s initial shot, but she was able to collect the rebound and beat Cove to the far post to tie the game at 1-1.

The Pack retook the lead, and scored what proved to be the game winner, in the 26th minute as Blaine Dugan headed in a cross from Miller to put Nevada back on top 2-1.

Mann scored her first career goal for the Pack in the 57th minute.  Mann won possession of the ball near midfield and found herself on a breakaway.  Daws came off her line to try and challenge Mann, but Mann bent her shot around the Aggies’ keeper to give Nevada a 3-1 lead.  Mann also saw one of her first half shots hit off the post.

Drummond scored the Pack’s final goal of the game in the 81st minute off an assist from Karen Zmirak.  Miranda Montejo started the Pack’s scoring play in the midfield, playing Zmirak wide on the right.  Zmirak beat her defender and found Drummond making a run up the middle.  Drummond was able to chip the keeper as she came off her line and bury her shot into the upper right corner, giving Nevada a 4-1 lead.

“Today we came out strong and played very well,” interim head coach Antoinette Marjanovic said.  “We scored our first goal quickly and we were able to maintain our momentum throughout the entire game.”

UC Davis outshot Nevada 16-15 in the match, but the Pack held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.  Dugan, Drummond and Mann each took a team-high three shots for the Pack.

Cove played a full game in goal for Nevada and recorded five saves, including a knocking Samantha Faber’s shot wide in the 63rd minute.  Daws finished the game with four saves for the Aggies.
