ABOUT NEVADA
Nevada went unbeaten over the weekend, recording a 1-0-1 record. The Pack recorded a 3-3 double overtime tie with Sacramento State and shutout San Francisco 2-0. Miranda Montejo became the Pack’s all-time leader in points (41) while Marie Cove recorded her first career shutout. Nevada will face first-time opponent Iowa State this weekend at the Rebel Classic in Las Vegas and will take on nationally-ranked Washington State on Sunday. The Pack is 2-0 all-time against Washington State and has already faced two Pac-10 teams this year (Oregon and Arizona) and one nationally-ranked team (#19 Oregon).
MONTEJO’S NUMBER 1, THOMPSON CLOSING IN ON RECORD
With her goal against Sacramento State, junior Miranda Montejo became Nevada’s all-time leader in points with 40, passing Kaula Rowe (2000-03, 39 points). Montejo increased her career point total to 41 with an assist in Sunday’s match. Montejo (16 career goals) is also three goals away from claiming the top spot on Nevada’s all-time goal list. Junior Jessica Thompson’s assist on Devin Noe’s game-winning goal against San Francisco put Thompson in a tie on Nevada’s all-time assist list. Thompson, 11 career assists, is tied with Lauren Kinneman (2003-06) for the all-time record.

Two players, freshmen Cristen Drummond (1 goal, 1 assist) and Jill Erickson (1 assist) each recorded their first career point for the Pack over the weekend. Drummond scored Nevada’s second goal versus Sacramento State and assisted on Karen Zmirak’s goal in the 89th minute that sent the match into overtime. Erickson recorded the assist on Montejo’s record-breaking goal on Friday night. As a team, the Pack recorded 17 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in its two games over the weekend while recording just five (2 goals, 1 assist) through its first three matches of the season.

Nevada held its opponents to 12 shots in two games over the weekend including three in its win over San Francisco. Nevada recorded its first shutout of the 2007 season with freshman keeper Marie Cove recording her first career shutout. In addition, defender Devin Noe recorded three points over the weekend (1 goal, 1 assist). As a team, the Pack has recorded 21 shutouts in 47 games dating back to the beginning of the 2005 season.

A Look at Iowa State: The Cyclones are 3-1-1 this season having recorded wins over Oakland, Northern Iowa and Montana. Iowa State lost to Dayton and tied Iowa. Offensively, the Cyclones are led by Elise Reed (5 points) and Erin Wittle (5 points). On the defensive side, Iowa State has recorded two shutouts and keeper Ann Gleason has a 0.74 GAA in 486:32 minutes. Iowa State is coached by Rebecca Hornbacher who is in her sixth season and has a 40-55-9 career record with the Cyclones.

SCOUTING THE WASHINGTON STATE COUGARS (Pac-10)
All-Time Series: Nevada leads the all-time series between the two schools, 2-0.
Last Meeting: Nevada posted a 2-1 victory at Washington State on Sept. 9, 2006. The Pack had a 2-0 lead going into the 76th minute on goals from Miranda Montejo and Samantha Miller. The Cougars scored a goal in the 77th minute but the Pack held Washington State to just one shot on goal over the remaining 13 minutes of the match.
A Look at Washington State: The Cougars are 4-0-1 this season and are ranked 23rd in the Soccer Buzz poll and are receiving votes in the NSCAA poll. Their biggest win of the young season was a 2-1 victory over #16 Oklahoma State. Kiersten Dallstream (7 points) and Brooke Bemis (6 points) lead the Cougars offensively. Keeper Bryn Bemis (1.08 GAA, 1 shutout) has played 499:05 minutes in goal for Washington State. The Cougars are coached by Matt Potter who is in his fifth season with Washington State and has a 47-39-17 overall record with the Cougars.

Nevada is 3-5 all-time against Pac-10 teams. The Pack has recorded wins over Washington State (2005 and 2006) and Oregon (2006), while Nevada has fallen to Arizona (2007), Oregon (2001, 2005 and 2007) and Stanford (2006).

LAST WEEK’S RESULTS (1-0-1)
vs. Sacramento State (Friday)
Nevada came back from a 2-0 deficit to record a 3-3 double overtime tie with the visiting Sacramento State Hornets Friday. Sacramento State had a 2-0 lead by the 36th minute before Miranda Montejo’s goal cut the lead to 2-1 just before half. Jill Erickson started Nevada’s scoring play, taking the ball into the box and finding Karen Zmirak. Zmirak’s one-touch pass found Montejo who beat Sacramento State keeper Mandy Trojan to the far post. With the two points, Montejo has recorded 40 career points and passed Kaula Rowe (39 points, 2000-03). Cristen Drummond’s first career goal tied the game at 2-2 in the 67th minute when she headed in Devin Noe’s free kick from 40 yards out. The Hornets retook the lead in the 87th minute, however, Zmirak headed in a cross from Drummond for the Pack’s third goal of the game which evened the score at 3-3 in the 89th minute to force overtime.
vs. San Francisco (Sunday)
Nevada shutout San Francisco Sunday afternoon at Mackay Stadium. Devin Noe scored Nevada’s first goal of the game, the second of her career, in the 23rd minute off assists from Blaine Dugan and Jessica Thompson. Dugan started the scoring play finding Thompson who dropped the ball to Noe on the right side. Noe fired a long-range shot that dropped in behind San Francisco keeper Anika Steig who was a few yards off her line. With the assist, Thompson tied Lauren Kinneman (2003-06) for most career assists with 11. Nevada scored its second goal of the match just 44 seconds into the second half. Miranda Montejo played Miller in behind two San Francisco defenders. Miller cut in and Steig had the near post covered but Miller’s powerful shot went through the legs of Steig to put the Pack up 2-0. Marie Cove picked up her first career shutout for the Pack recording two saves in the win.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Nevada will face UC Davis in Davis, Calif. on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. before returning to Mackay Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 30 to face intra-state rival UNLV at 1 p.m.
