RENO, Nev. -- The University of Nevada soccer team scored one goal in the first half and added two more in the second en route to a 3-0 exhibition win over CS Stanislaus Sunday night at Mackay Stadium.

Nevada’s starting lineup featured five freshmen, goalkeeper Marie Cove, defenders Erin Smith and Vanessa Mann and midfielders Jill Erickson and Cristen Drummond.  In addition, all 19 players on the Pack’s roster saw a significant amount of playing time.

Nevada got on the board in the 31st minute on a goal by Jessica Thompson.  Kenishia Warren took the ball down the right side of the field and got a cross off that found Thompson on the back post.  Thompson hit a one-time volley to the far post that beat CS Stanislaus keeper Jessica Sitarz, giving Nevada a 1-0 lead.

Drummond scored the Pack’s second goal of the night in the 52nd minute off an assist from Devin Noe.  Noe played a long ball out of the back to Drummond who took the ball down the right side of the field.  Drummond took a shot from the right corner that beat Sitarz to the upper corner of the far post.

Trisha Gibbons scored Nevada’s final goal of the night in the 79th minute.  Noe crossed the ball from the left side of the field, bringing Sitarz off her line.  Sitarz got a hand on Noe’s cross but couldn’t come up with the save and Gibbons collected the ball on the back post and hit a shot past the Warrior’s diving keeper.

“I am extremely pleased with the progress from Friday to Sunday,” Nevada head coach Terri Patraw said.  “I thought our attacking mindset was impressive and it was good to get everybody minutes.  Our two preseason games have been incredibly informational for us and we look forward to our game versus Oregon.”

Cove played 45 minutes in goal for the Pack and recorded one save.  Newcomer Sarah Hunt played the second half in goal for Nevada and did not face any shots.  Sitarz played the full 90 for CS Stanislaus and recorded six saves.

The Wolf Pack recorded 18 shots in the match, including nine on goal, while holding the Warriors to one, a shot from forward Cherie Early in the 41st minute.  Karen Zmirak took a game-high four shots for the Pack while Drummond ended the game with three.

Nevada will host Pac-10 opponent Oregon on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. and will play Portland State at home on Sept. 2 at 2 p.m.  Click here for ticket information.
