Cross Country Classic

 

“A Cross Country Opener Under Lights”

 

Escape the late summer heat and open the cross country season in the cool evening air at Reno’s Rancho San Rafael Park. Race a loop course under lights that will allow for coaches and spectators to watch and cheer numerous times.

There will be a limited number of teams allowed to compete. Please email Kirk Elias at kdelias@unr.edu to reserve a spot for your team. 

 

College Teams Participating: Boise State, Humboldt State, Nevada, Sacramento State, UC Davis, UCLA and UC Riverside. 

 

When: Friday, August 31, 2007

 

Where: San Rafael Park, Reno, NV

 

Schedule: 7:00pm College/Open Men, TBD (6000/6400/4mile)

                    7:45pm High school Boys, 4000 meters

                    8:30pm College/Open Women, 4000 meters

                    9:15pm High School Girls, 4000 meters

 

Course: The course will be a loop course so that spectators and coaches see the athletes more frequently. The course is grass and dirt trails with rolling hills. The course is on pavement for short stretches. Spikes may be used, but race flats would be advised.

 

Hotel: The preferred hotel is Circus Circus. It is less than 1.5 miles from the course. Call Circus Circus at 800-648-5010 and identify yourself as part of the "Nevada Twilight Cross Country Classic."  The rate for Thursday will be $69.00 + tax. The rate for Friday will be $99.00 + tax.  There are MANY other options for lodging in Reno if Circus Circus does not fit your budget. Many can be found with a simple internet search. However, if finding a hotel that meets your budget is a concern, please contact me.

Entries: Contact Kirk Elias at
kdelias@unr.edu to reserve a spot for your team. Entries will be made on www.Directathletics.com. Entry deadline is Friday, August 24 at Noon.

 

Medical: Trainers will be available at the course starting at 5:30pm.

 

Registration: Register at www.directathletics.com. Registration ends at Noon PDT on Friday, August 24.

 

Entry Fee: Entry fees may be payable to cash or check.  Please make checks out to "Board of Regents"

                     High School: $100/team or $150 for a combined program.

                     College: $150/team or $250 for a combined program.   

                     Open athletes: $20

 

Awards: High School: To the top 25 individuals and the top three teams.

                College: To the top 10 individuals and the first team.

 

Concessions: T-Shirts and refreshments will be available.

 

Directions: From I-80 eastbound: Take the Downtown/Virginia St exit (exit #13). Take a left on Sierra (the first light at the end of the exit). Go approximately ¾ mile. After you have crested the hill and begin downhill, the park entrance will be on your left.

                  From I-80 westbound: Take the Downtown/Virginia St exit (exit #13). Travel forward to the third stoplight which is Sierra St. Take a right on Sierra. Go approximately ¾ mile. After you have crested the hill and begin downhill, the park entrance will be on your left.

 

Showers: There are no showers available at the park.
