Cross Country Finishes Third at Nevada Twilight Cross Country Classic

SPARKS, Nev. - Led by sophomore Jordan Burke who finished second overall, the University of Nevada cross country team placed third out of five teams Friday night at the 4K Nevada Twilight Cross Country Classic at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks.

Burke placed second with a PR time of 15:29 behind first-place finisher Roxanne Sellick (15:18) of Fresno State.  Burke's time places her in a tie with Nicole McRae for fifth all-time in Nevada's 4K record book and was one minute and 10 seconds faster than her previous 4K PR. 

Natalia Jarawka was one of five Nevada student-athletes to post a top-20 finish.  Jarawka finished 11th with a time of 16:15 while freshman Katarina Ratkowiak finished 12th with a time of 16:20. 

Freshman Samantha Diaz placed 17th overall with a time of 16:31 followed by Gloria Sosa who took 20th (16:44).  Senior Mandy Russ finished four seconds behind Sosa, coming in with a time of 16:48 to take 21st place. 

Christy Works took 24th (17:15), freshman Nicole Painter finished 25th (17:17), newcomer Tara Dines finished 29th (17:42) while Kalyn Kenney rounded out the finishers for Nevada, placing 30th with a time of 17:46.

Nevada's next competition will be on Saturday, September 26 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
